This from Wayne Stuart:
The Gary Fire Department operated two of these 1966 Mack “C” model pumpers. They had 1,000-GPM pumps and 300-gallon booster tanks. This pumper was assigned to Engine Company 4. It carried Mack serial #C95FD-1524.

Thanks Matthew for your response. So is Station 7 running an engine, truck, ambulance, squad and batt chief? And Station 11 is closed again?

407 is back at running out of 7s again and engine 9 has been re-established however 8s is temporarily stationed there since their house was shut down so they’re running as engine 9. And yes 6s has been shut down for years due to the low ceiling height now the health dept is using the building for storage 10s is also shut down due to a major flood that occurred in the summer of 08. Now station 5 is the million dollar question and alot of people are asking the question on why its not being built and it’s been a constant excuse after another and now we’re being told construction should start next year.

Matthew:
Isn’t Medic 407 running out of Station 11? And when Prompt Ambulance vacated Station 9, wasn’t Engine 9 re-established?

Gary Station 6 has been closed for several years, mainly due to a low ceiling issue. It was last used to house an EMS/SUV. Station 10 has also been out for a number of years due to a major flood that had occurred in that area. Anyone know the status of Station 5 ? The company was relocated to a temporary facility in Merrillville due unlivable conditions in their old station…and there were plans to build a new #5. Hopefully #8’s station will be back in service service soon, as it will be the only one remaining of the classic old “dollhouse” stations of that era. The others were #5 and #6…and possibly the original #7.

The Ferrara Tower ladder is no more apparently Ferrara can’t fix it and the American Lafrance aerial is back in service currently being used as Truck 7. 8s is being planned on being reopened but don’t know when plus it needs renovations due to mold being found in the building hence the reason why all 3 turns of 8s crew moved to Station 9. 11s shut down due to no manpower and apparatus. And 6 & 10s are on the unknown status at the moment.

No doubt that MACK C model was a tough and beautiful apparatus. A true custom for sure.
The only thing though is that you had to get MACK diesel and gasoline engines hence no WAUKESHA or CONTIENTAL gasoline and no CUMMINS or DETROIT diesel. Although many were repowered later.

Thanks for the response Matthew. Are those stations all open with single fire companies or have any of the truck houses got an engine back too? I’m guessing stations 6 & 10 won’t be reopening but is there any future plans for 8 & 11? Is the Ferrera tower ladder or American lafrance ex truck 1 back in service?

Station No. 3 has been back into service after 6 years that’s now a total of 10 stations (1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 7s, 9s, 12s, 13s, & 14s) opened. And expecting at least 5 new engines coming approximately March next year.

mike mc, if my old memory serves me correctly the address of Engine 4 was 2246 Broadway. If you look at Bing maps or Google earth the floor outline is still visible

Thanks for posting. The Mack model C was very popular and time showed that they were very durable. Does anyone know where this firehouse was?
