Chicago Fire Department news

Excerpts from the southern.com:

Illinois-based companies and emergency responders personnel are helping with the relief effort in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Monday that the city’s fire department will send nearly two dozen firefighters, paramedics, and engineers to Puerto Rico this week with stretchers, defibrillators, and other supplies. They’re expected to spend 10 days there to help.

Emanuel and U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez have coordinated with Chicago-based United Airlines to deliver supplies. The city also welcomed evacuees arriving last week at O’Hare International Airport.

Gutierrez’s family is from Puerto Rico. He returned Sunday from a visit there and said there’s still an immediate need for help from the federal government.

Gov. Bruce Rauner says over 550 Illinois National Guardsmen are on alert and ready for deployment if they’re needed.

Oak Forest Fire Department history

This from Mike Summa:

This was Oak Forest Engine 91, a 1973 FWD/Pierce 1250/750.  Built on FWD’s 4 wheel drive “Tractioneer” chassis.  On a side note, all Oak Forest apparatus purchased in the 1970’s had manual transmission.
Enjoy and comment.  Mike Summa

Historic Chicago fire photos

This from Eric Haak:

This week I thought I would share one image from four different incidents. The first is a 5-11 at 29th and LaSalle Streets on 8/26/59. The building was going to be demolished for the construction of the Dan Ryan.

The final is a 3-11 at 4201 S. State on 8/2/66. Safe to say we will rarely ever see fires like these again. It was a different time

Box Alarm fire in Cicero, 10-5-17 (part 1)

This from Jeff Braun Jr.;

Here are some photos from the Box Alarm in Cicero at 5939 W. Roosevelt Rd. (10/5/17). Calls initially came at Approx. 2300 Hours, and Chicago responded first. After they arrived on scene, they realized it was Cicero’s fire, but they were able to stay on scene and assist since it was a large commercial structure (even though they are not due on the Box Alarm for Cicero). Units from Cicero, Berwyn, Chicago, North Riverside, Oak Park, Forest Park, Stickney, Lyons, and Bedford Park were on scene. Thanks. -Jeff Braun Jr. (COUNTY-WIDE FIRE PHOTOGRAPHY)
