The Lincolnwood Fire Department is fighting a fire near the intersection of Albion and Kilpatrick. Units reported on the scene at roughly 2:30PM to find a ranch house with heavy smoke showing. Companies soon went defensive. The house is reportedly a “Collyer’s Mansion” and is packed with debris and various items.
Tim Olk submitted the following image from the scene roughly 35 minutes into the incident with heavy fire through the roof.

Plus the Evanston Trk is a pre-piped aerial which can flow up to 1000gpm. Doesn’t really matter if a TL or Ladder pipe are used, results same, fire goes out!

Dennis I would disagree with your statement. It doesn’t matter how tall a structure rises. What matters is what strategy and tactics are needed. Since the greatest available flow from a hand line being used offensively is 350 GPM and the roof appears unsafe (maybe interior is too?) then options become limited. We don’t need to limit ourselves with rules that can’t be justified with reason. FDNY routinely uses its Aerialscopes on grade level fires in an offensive posture. Think “what do I need and how can I do that safely?”

You dont use a tower ladder on a 1 sty ranch house.

There were actually two Towers on the scene. Lincolnwood #15 could not deploy due to overhanging trees and a lightpost. Skokie #16 was more than a block away, and would have had to drive over Niles E3’s multiple lines to deploy. Evanston #23 was on the side with the heaviest fire.

how come they didnt use the tower for the master stream kind of silly to have it if you dont use it
