Good morning… my name is Sharon Doty and I live out in DeKalb IL. I’m inquiring about a Chicago Fire Department patch. Not certain if I’m connecting to the right place or if you can lead me in the right direction. My sons dad was a firefighter/chief in Sycamore local 3042 for 23 years. He’s now retired. My 10 year old has taken up collecting fire department patches. We go into Luries Children’s Hospital every 6 months for his Dr. appointments. On our last visit, we walked across to Harry Carays for lunch and passed Firehouse 98. The young man working that day was outside returning from a call and he was SO kind to take a few minutes to talk with my son and even asked if he’d like a picture next to the engine. Quin has talked about that every time we hear a siren go off. It made quite an impact. The firefighters name was Mohammed. Anyway, I would like to see about getting a patch either from Chicago or Firehouse 98. Not certain if they have different patches in the city. I want to put it in his Christmas stocking. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated!!!Thank you,Sharon Doty(815)751-84781523 Waterside DriveDeKalb, IL 60115

Hi there!! I found this site by accident and the photos are amazing!! I am the daughter of a retired Firefighter/Arson investigator. My father was, and still is so incredibly passionate about his career and serving his community, to the degree that he finally officially retired 2 years ago and went out and found a part time job in another district so he can still do what he loves. Recently my mother was diagnosed with cancer, things have been very hard for him and he is beyond himself with stress and worry. In an effort to cheer him up, my children and I have began the mission of helping him collect patches from all over the world. He has a small collection already, but, he would never be able to obtain as many as he would love to have. Every time we bring him a new one, his day becomes a little brighter and he takes it right to the book we made him to keep them in, and delights in adding to his collection. If by some chance, there is someone, or more than one someone, out there that would like to help cheer up my dad and add to his collection, we would be forever grateful for your contribution and for your help in making this possible for him. My address will be at the end of this post. And to all the firefighters, May you all be safe, return home to those who love you, and thank you for giving the gift of safety back to those who live in the communities in which you work so hard to protect. Gods Speed to all of you…Jennifer Lee8042 Kelty CtSacramento,Ca 95828

This from Barry McRoy:
This article was on our local news. The little girl wants fire dept patches. She has cancer and her dad is a firefighter. Maybe you can post it.
Barry, Fire Chief, Colleton County Fire-Rescue
Excerpts from livenews5.com:
Mileena Painter, a 12-year-old girl from Riverside in St. Clair County (AL) was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia this past August. She is now home bound and not able to go to traditional school. For one of her school projects she has decided to collect firefighter patches from around the world.
“She started school on August 8th and went to half a day of 6th grade and was diagnosed on the 9th and she is home bound,” says Rachelle Painter, Mileena’s mom. “She can’t go to traditional school with her classmates. So she wanted to do a different type of project and since dad is a firefighter (at the Riverside Fire Department) and mom is a paramedic she thought this would be kind of fun.”
“What I think I feel good about is that some people don’t appreciate firefighters and paramedics like they should and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to do it too is because some people don’t appreciate them,” says Mileena. “And when they say they are fighting with me it makes me feel good and it makes me not want to cry.”
“So we have gotten T-shirts she is going to wear to chemo,” adds her mom. “She likes them nice and big because they have to access her port in chemotherapy. So those are good things to wear while she is getting chemotherapy and she can kinda feel the brotherhood of the firefighters.”
“The neatest thing that I think that we get when we receive the patches is the prayers that come with them,” says Rachelle. “The majority of them are sending letters or cards telling her that they are in it with her, they are fighting for her and they are praying for her. And that to me means more than the patch does.”
Mileena plans on keeping the patches and sewing them together into a quilt. She wants to then use the quilt as a way to share her story and her testimony with other people.
“Mileena has about two more years of chemotherapy to go thought so as far as I’m concerned they can keep sending those patches for the next two years and we can make lots of quilts,” says Rachelle.
“I want to thank all of my brothers and sisters in the fire service both in Illinois and in Alabama and also the Red Knights Organization that has really helped us out with a lot of this,” adds Kevin Painter. “It is a firefighters motorcycle club that goes all over the world. And some of the patches we have received are from chapters in different parts of the world. I would also like to thank our church family, God and our savior Jesus Christ who has walked us through this journey since August.”
If you would like to send firefighter patches, t-shirts, cards or letters, mail them to Mileena Painter PO Box 7 Riverside, Al 35135.

Can you forward this to all of the districts ? I can’t find a contact list.
My 3 year old son Hunter has had 2 major back surgeries this year. He had double fusion surgery on his back to fix a problem from birth.
My local fire department has been amazing setting up special events for Hunter and doing some pretty incredible things with him. We all have the utmost respect for Police and Fire departments.
Something I’d like to do for Hunter is make a huge frame with patches from fire departments from all over the USA. I was wondering if it is possible to send him one from your city? Or if you can also get any cities around you? We spend a lot of time in Chicago and I have seen a lot of really cool patches for the Chicago land area.
If not that is OK, please do not feel obligated to do so.
We appreciate your service.
Thank you
