Huntley FPD news

Excerpts from Shawlocal.com:

The Huntley Fire Protection District responded about 6:15 p.m. Monday to a house in the 11800 block of Cape Code Lane and found smoke and fire from both the front and rear. The homeowner and their dog were able to get out of the building before firefighters arrived.

It took about 35 minutes to bring the fire under control. It was not known if the house had working smoke detectors.

Windy conditions are suspected to have caused the fire to spread quickly, and because of the risk for neighboring homes, the incident was upgraded.

The fire caused about $500,000 worth of damages, and the cause is under investigation.

Excerpts from the nwherald.com:

Theresa Jones was walking her dog with a friend about 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sun City Huntley when she heard and felt an explosion at a home she was walking past. Within 10 minutes a home in the 13400 block of Michigan Avenue was engulfed in black smoke and flames.

Huntley police and fire responded to the scene, and it took less than an hour to extinguish the blaze, Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tim Flannigan said.

Two firefighters were injured at the scene, but they were treated and released Tuesday.

A cause for the fire still is under investigation. Officials did not comment on the estimated damage.

This is the second fire to have damaged a Sun City home this week.

On Sunday morning, firefighters were called to the 12000 block of Illinois Street for an attic fire that rendered a home uninhabitable.

Another fire in May destroyed two homes and at least one vehicle in the 14100 block of Saffron Trail.
