Franklin Park 2nd Alarm Commercial Fire 1-2-13

The Franklin Park Fire Department requested a 2nd Alarm this afternoon for heavy fire in an auto repair business at 3305 Mannheim Road. Companies were forced to make a defensive attack which brought the fire under control within an hour.

This from Josh Boyajian:

I took in Franklin Park’s Fire this afternoon at 3305 Mannheim. Was a small building 50×100 with heavy fire throughout. Here are some of my photos!

The Chicago Tribune has a description of the fire:

A Franklin Park auto body shop had its roof cave in during an extra-alarm fire that brought firefighters from surrounding towns’ departments, including Chicago’s, and caused at least three minor accidents on a nearby overpass this afternoon, authorities said.

The fire at Intent Auto Body, 3305 N. Mannheim Road, started about 12:30 p.m. and was under control about an hour later. At one point, flames leapt several stories in the air from the one-story brick building, distracting several drivers on the nearby Mannheim Road overpass and causing at least three minor accidents, police on the scene said.

Chicago 2-11 Alarm Fire 12-7-12 part 2

This from Eric Haak:

At 1624 hrs on Friday, December 7th, fire broke out in an abandoned 50 x 125, 2-story ordinary, apartments over commercial structure at the corner of Drake and 16th Street in Chicago.  Still companies included engines 38 and 109, trucks 48 and 32 along with the 14th battalion.  Truck 26 was RIT with the 13th battalion.  6 minutes after first arrival, companies went defensive as Truck 48 reported a bad roof.  At 1635 hrs the 14th called for the still and box followed by a 2-11 alarm 9 minutes later by 2-2-1.  Squad 1’s snorkle operated from a vacant lot to the southeast of the fire building as tower ladder 54 took up operations in sector 1 on 16th Street.  Tower Ladder 5 operated on Drake, directly to the west of the fire building.

Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire 11-26-12

This from Steve Redick:

Monday about 1500 hrs, 5000 Bl of West Winona. Fire in 2 occupied frame dwellings…1 victim with significant burns. Companies had knocked down the main body of outside fire when I arrived, but I was able to observe what appeared to be significant fire in both attics. Eventually TL23 was used to knock down fire in the main fire building. This was a dead end street so the first due truck, 23 pulled into the block first and 79 then backed down and led out. Eng 69 had 2 lines from the street to the south, through a vacant lot and had a great shot to the rear of the buildings. I believe 94 ran into some sort of hydrant issue, and I’m not sure if they ever really got water. It appeared another engine went several hundred feet to the next block in an attempt to supply them. This was an interesting fire due to limited acess and proximity and involvement of exposures. Unusual to see this much fire at such a busy time of day.
All the photos will be on my site
