Northbrook firefighters were dispatched to the southbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Thursday afternoon for a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer. Companies found the driver of the car needing to be extricated after hitting the back of the truck’s trailer just prior to the southbound exit ramp to Willow Road.
A Flight For Life medical helicopter was requested to the scene and landed on the highway after all lanes in both directions were shutdown.

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
A piece of construction equipment toppled over into a ditch injuring a construction worker and spilling fuel early Wednesday morning.
Mundelein Police Chief Eric Guenther said the machine’s operator escaped and was walking around before
first responderspolice and firefighters arrived.Crews were in a large ditch next to the lake and using a drill to complete work under the roadway, according to Guenther. He said the crane attached to a front loader was lifting the drill out of the ditch so it could be refueled, but a weight imbalance caused both machines to tumble into the ditch.

The Countryside FPD requested a 2nd Alarm Hazardous Materials Box this morning after a truck trailer tipped over in Vernon Hills. The Daily Herald has this information:
A section of one of central Lake County’s busiest roads was shut down for several hours Wednesday, snarling morning rush-hour motorists, after a truck’s trailer tipped over in Vernon Hills.
No one was seriously injured in the 6:20 a.m. accident on Route 60 at Butterfield Road, said Batallion Chief Kevin Wodrich of the Countryside Fire Protection District.
The truck was pulling two trailers. One of the trailers tipped onto its side as the truck was turning from southbound Butterfield Road onto eastbound Route 60, Vernon Hills police said.
The Con-way Freight truck was hauling two 300-gallon tanks of potassium hydroxide and two 300-gallon tanks of phosphoric acid, the fire department said in a news release, and the tanks leaked. A hazardous-materials team stopped the leaks so workers could clean up the mess.
Tim Olk was at the scene and submitted several images.

The Countryside Fire Protection District received calls Monday afternoon reporting a car accident at the intersection of Lakeview Parkway and North Fairway Drive in Vernon Hills. Witnesses said that one of the vehicles drove into a nearby retention pond and that the driver was still inside the vehicle. Divers were dispatched from the Libertyville Fire Department and the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District.

The driver was able to get out of the submerged vehicle and was sitting on the car’s roof when firefighters arrived. He reportedly made it out of the water with assistance from several passersby. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
