The Palatine Fire Department received several calls around 11AM reporting smoke and fire from an apartment at 1213 Longvalley Drive in an unincorporated area of their district along Rand Road. The numerous calls prompted the battalion chief to upgrade the alarm to a working fire while companies were en-route to the scene.
Initial calls reported a trapped occupant on the third floor of the three-story building. When units arrived, they had heavy smoke pushing out the window of a basement unit. Firefighters made a quick attack and knocked the fire down within minutes.
Larry Shapiro was at the scene and submitted a few images. The entire set is HERE.
