This from Wayne Stuart for #throwbackthursday
The Carnegie Illinois Steelworks Corp. plant at the Gary Steel Works operated this 1943 ALF model B601CO. It had a 1000 GPM pump and a 200 gallon tank. It carried ALF serial # L-1918. It was in service there until the mid 60’s.

This is not really Gary Fire Dept History. It is however history of the United States Steel Gary Works Fire Dept. US Steel Gary Works has a Fire Dept with a long history of protecting the workers and the other assets of US Steel. I believe they run two firehouses with 2 engines, 2 Ambulances, 1 Squad, and 1 Ladder.

ALF took an awful chance to discontinue those conventional apparatus chassis but at the time it paid off when they concentrated on the cab forward.
