Harry, Tower 16 is a 2016 E-One. It was originally Tower 37 but went to 16 in 2022. It’s had some issues before like the engine fire it had 2023

I will say that while I understand cutting costs, and that what’s important is having a good reliable fleet, I do miss the 888s. Maybe someday they’ll make a comeback.

FWIW, the EQ2B is soon to be obsolete. Federal has an alternate option available.

Based on the condition of Chicago’s fleet, I would think the last thing to be focused on or concerned about would be the siren. I’d be happy if Chicago just had working apparatus.
One thing to focus on, Hairy is that many departments don’t want the ‘real siren’ because it requires periodic service. The EQ2B is way more reliable in the long-term AND it’s less expensive than the Q2B.

So, Harry, it is your contention that only the FDNY companies who have mechanical sirens have vehicles yield to them? And all of the other ones are just out of luck?

ec darroll yes thats correct but a lot of companies in the fdny have them thought t32 e62 r1 r4 e63 l123 i believe more and more are getting them even thought fdny does not install them and yes they have the electronic q and the one that i like also the pa300

Harry, any FDNY apparatus that has a mechanical Federal Q (what you call a “real” siren) was paid for and installed by the members of the company. They are not ordered with them, they’re ordered with electronic Qs. As a matter of fact, it’s only been within the past decade-ish that the FDNY shops stoped removing the self-installed sirens from their apparatus (previously to this anytime a company sent in their apparatus for maintenance or repair they would have to remove the siren themselves to prevent it from being confiscated).

Mike G,
The snorkels are still going to be in service as they try and find something to replace them with.
Mike C,
These rigs don’t have anything special it is a cab and a box. They’ve been extremely unreliable and are being replaced early specifically for that reason

All of our fire apparatus have Qs and guess what? People still dont move. The ppl that will move for fire apparatus will. The ppl that wont, wont. Regardless of what siren they use.

Harry, if HALF your focus in your posts on this page were worthwhile, it would be one thing. You tend to focus on the dumbest, most minutia ridiculous things day in and day out. Good gosh, man, get over some of this stupidity already.

Chicago typically uses the Cyclone cabs. Curious as to why Chicago went with the Typhoon for this rig.
In terms of the amount of time the Rosenbauers are out of service, do they have anything fancy on them or are they just boxes? I can see when you have a pump, aerial, generator one one rig which results in a lot to go wrong but if the Chicago Rosenbauers are just boxes, why are they so unreliable.
I am very surprised Chicago purchased these rigs when they have other rigs that are significantly older.

Nice looking rig! Hope it holds up better than the Rosenbauer! It makes sense Squad 5 is getting one of the two new boxes. Theirs seems to be OOS a lot! I wonder who the other box will go to. Squad 1 or 2? If I had to guess, it would be Squad 1 since their box is also OOS a lot as well.

Love me some E-one squad rigs. If only it had an 888 light. maybe think about replacing Snorkels with a Sutphen SP70. They can go anywhere a Snorkel can and have more reach up and out. could set up in alleys and vacant lots. Just spec it with out a pump or tank for extra storage. They carry ladders as well.

So, Harry, you’ve never seen a single vehicle yield to a fire apparatus or ambulance in Chicago? How about New York in the past 10ish years?

chuck i am sorry if you like or dont like my comment but a real fire vehicle has a q
have you ever been in the city and seen anyone move out of the way of the electronic q i doubt it the q gets peoples attention all the time
but a lot of big dept either dont like the q or just dont use it
