The Long Grove Fire District and neighboring fire departments responded to a kitchen fire at 2316 W Nichols Road shortly before 6PM on Tuesday. Additional calls reported that several residents were trapped. First arriving units found heavy fire on two floors and then upgraded the working fire to a MABAS Box Alarm. The building is located in the Country Glen Apartments, a very congested complex of similar six-unit, three-story buildings. This structure was located in a back corner with limited access to all sides. This made it difficult for fire apparatus to get close to the structure and was severely limiting.
Although the fire was held to the building of origin, it was completely destroyed.
Three people were transported to area hospitals.

Elaine, regardless of the mailing address, this building is in the Long Grove Fire Protection Districts coverage area and is not the responsibility of Arlington Heights or Buffalo Grove. Fox 32 was correct and ABC 7 was wrong.

The complex is in unincorporated Arlington Heights with all addresses stating Arlington Heights. It borders Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove. I lived there for 4 years. ABC is accurately reporting, FOX 32 refuses to even after being called. This is NOT near Long Grove even though the fire department helped out.

I was watching that from Sky Cam 7 on TV and the fire building was in a tough position (Sandwiched between a few other buildings) so that had to position the Tower Ladder about a block behind the fire building and they had to hit it from rear angle.
The unique thing about the location is also that fire was located in Cook County in a relatively isolated subdivision while while technically assigned to the Long Grove Fire Protection District (about 3 and a half miles from the fire building) Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove and Palatine all take the nearby areas. Palatine Station 82 actually was 2 miles from the scene while Arlington Heights Station 4 and Buffalo Grove Station 25 were at least 3 miles away. I hope that the subdivision had automatic aid and that they didn’t have to wait for Long Grove to arrive before calling for help.
