Both 688 & 689 are seasonal and have 1 officer, 1 engineer, 2 ff’s (all are divers) have two very small rooms in the marine safety station in season (march – november), off season (November- march) they are all citywide relief and go wherever they are needed. The jet ski’s are stored and only used for special events like air and water show, scene party, 4th July. The inflatable boats are stored and are intended for flooding, swift water and mabas incidents. Hope this clears up your question.

First time posting on here. Found this on the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District website and I don’t think I have seen this yet.

Late last year Joliet approved the purchase of two E-One pumpers that are to delivered in 2025. Tomorrow night the City should be voting to approve two more E-One pumpers (E-One agreed to the same price as last year) to be delivered in 2026.

The crew of Engine 2 lives on the old fireboat Engine 58, I believe the seasonal crews of 6-8-8 and 6-8-9 do as well. The jet skis are seasonally in the water and are only staffed for big events on the lake. The fast boats are staffed with 4 divers (1 officer/2 ff/emts/1ff/pm)

John, Orland’s pick will by replacing a 2003 ford pick up. They ordered a new chassis for the utility back in October

John, Orland’s new pick up is just that. It may use it to plow, they may put a salt box in it, they may use it as a brush truck (they have a brush skid they can use).
They do have a F-450 chassis on order to remount the 1992 squad body.

What would the penalty be to cancel an order that is already being built? I suppose it would be a good deal for another department somewhere to pick up a partly built ladder.

Thanks Tyler. That is interesting as they don’t run the current tower first out except for very rare occasions. Maybe spending that amount of money on a new aerial that doesn’t run much is a cost savings as well.

Harry,
Orland’s new truck is just a chassis to replace the 90s truck chassis on utility.

Brian this is what was said on the board meeting:
“Chief Messersmith discussed the current contract with the new ladder truck due to come in August 2024. Chief Messersmith asked for approval in stopping the build on the new ladder truck, now that the current ladder truck has been fixed and would better serve the area than the newly proposed truck”

I have some questions that are apparatus related, so I thought I would post them here.
Regarding Chicago’s fire boats: Where does the crew of Engine 2 (the Wheatley) stay, and sleep, when they are not on a call or training, etc.?
How are the “fast boats” 6-8-5?, 6-8-8, 6-8-9, staffed? (Are there 3 or only 2?) How many personnel? Where does the crew hang out and sleep when they are not on a call or training, etc.?
Who staffs the jet ski’s, and where do they stay when not on a call?
What about the rubber rescue boats that I believe are kept at the Special Operations warehouse? (And elsewhere?)
Am I missing any other water craft?
