Michael M , while Lincolnwood does have station number 45 assigned to it, are you aware that Station 45 is not a real fire station but is a part time Ambulance Post at a Large Senior Citizen Assisted Care Center on the east end of town which is known as the Carrington and is a complex of building located at 3501 Northeast Parkway.
They have an agreement with the VIllage of Lincolnwood that Ambulance 45 which is the first out Ambulance is located at the Carrington Overnight between 6:30 pm and 6;30 am and then they report back to the Village Fire Station at 6900 N Lincoln Avenue from 6:30 am until 6:30pm or 18;30 if you prefer using army time. The second due Ambulance in town is 15 which I understand gets it crew from Tower Ladder 15 so it is in effect a Jump company. I am not sure if Tower Ladder 15 normally runs with 3 or 4 people because if it runs with only3 people then it would need to go out of service if Ambulance 15 goes out on a run but if Tower Ladder 15 were to run with a 4 man crew then conceivably the Tower Ladder would still be able to run with 2 men on it even though that would be far from ideal. At the moment I don’t know if the Agreement between Lincolnwood and the Carrington Senior Living Center is still in effect or not. I do know that it was in effect from at least 2021 or perhaps before that , until last summer (2023). Whether that agreement is still in effect I am not sure about.
Mike that would be interesting if Prospect Heights were to give up the Station number 9 to Northbrook for a New Station there.

Eng 37, when exactly did Northbrook Court announce that they would donate land for a New Fire Station and when did Town approve it? Did they announce a specific location and was done at one of the Official Village Council Meetings and if so when was the meeting held?
Eng 37 and Michael M the Village of Northbrook did a detailed study done on the fire department called the “Comprehensive Fire Department Organizational Assessment Study” and it was released in December 2022 and publicly reviewed on January 10th 2023.
The study included a section and a study of the “Ideal Fire Station Locations” with a goal of having every point in the Village of Northbrook to be within a 4 minute drive of the nearest fire station at least 80% of the time.
The study concluded that a new Northbrook “Station 13” should be built in the vicinity of Waukegan Road and Walnut which is near the Deerbrook Mall.
In the next step it recommended that Fire Station 12 be relocated the Vicinity of Techny Road and Pfingsten which is about a mile west of the current Station 12 at 1840 Shermer road. The third and final step would relocate Fire station 11 from its current location at 740 Dundee road to the Vicinity of Woodlark and Voltz road.
Together the new “Station 13” and the relocated Stations 11 and 12 along with the current Station 10 would put the entire Village of Northbrook within a 4 minute drive from the nearest fire station approximately 83% of the time.
Under the current 3 fire station setup in Northbrook only 70% of the Village is with a 4 minute Drive time of the nearest fire station.
With a new 4th fire station built near Waukegan road and Walnut court the 4 minute drive time would increase to 77%.
With a New Station 12 at Pringsten near Techny road the 4 minute drive time would increase to 80% of the VIllage and with a New Station 11 at Voltz near Woodlark road the percent of the Village within a 4 minute drive would increase to 83%.
If the proposed 4th fire station is build near Waukegan and Walnut it would also put Northbrook Court with in a 4 minute Drive of a Fire Station.
The way it is currently set up Station 11 is over a 4 minute drive to Northbrook Court.
The National Fire Protection Association rule 1710 recommends a maximum 4 minute drive time for a Fire or an EMS run for first responder 90% of the time. Rule 1710 also recommends a maximum 1 minute extra turnout time for an EMS run while for a fire run the maximun turnout time is recommended to be no more than One minute and 20 seconds turnout time.
Rule 1710 is not a law but a well thought out and tested recommendation.
As far as the numbering or renumbering some of the Northbrook or Prospect Heights fire stations I’m sure that might need to be done and Station 13 is already part of the Glenview fire department. Eng 37 that would be great if Northbrook were to order a Seagrave Aerialscope and it would be a new idea for Northbrook, however they could also order an Apollo model which is rearmounted.

I bet drew can answer this but my guess would be P Heights would give up 9 and be 38 and 39 and morthbook would get the number 9.

Interesting that Nortbrook might get a 4th station. What number would the station get? They have 10,11, and 12. Glenview already has Station 13. Prospect Heights has 9 and 39. I know Lincolnwood has Stations 15 and 45. I don’t know what the next number would be fore RED center. Would the next number be 46?

Bill: Northbrook was recently approved to build a 4th station on land being donated by Northbrook court mall, however I am unsure of when this will happen. I also heard they will also be rebuilding station 11 on another property somewhere near the current station 11. As far as the Engine they have on order, I am told this will be Engine 11 and Squad 11 will go to station 12 as they used to have in the past. Rumor is they may begin to spec out a new tower somewhat soon that has to possibility of being a Seagrave Aerialscope.

Michael M,
Bedford Park’s Other new engine will likely go to sta. 1 as they rearranged the dept. and now have 2 Engines frontline and only 1 Truck Co.
Sta. 1
Engine 711 (707 Reserve) and Ambo 701
Sta. 2
Engine 710 and Ambo 703 (712 Reserve)
Sta. 3
Battalion 7 and Quint 704 or Tower 709 (Rotated whichever is not being used is stored at Sta. 1)
If you want a full breakdown of the Stations you can find it here?

I have a few questions regarding Northbrooks order. Where is there Seagrave going to.? It appears that it can only be going to Engine 10 which is a 2021 practically new Pierce. I don’t see it going to Station 11 as they have large box style Squad/pumper assigned there and it isn’t that old as it is a 2017 model. Station 12 has an Engine which is rarely manned and is basically a standby and call back company which is more or less a reserve company and is a 2015 PIerce. It appears that perhaps it would go to Engine 10 and have the current Engine 10 replace Engine 12. Northbrook did have study done within the last few years and it was recommended that a new Station 13 be built however I haven’t hear of an immediately plwns to build a new station as of yet.

Pierce still has over 30 engines on order! Best guess Skokie replacing 17 and 18, EGV engine 8, Bedford Park the 2010 at station 2. No clue where the other one will go. Lincolnshire I am guessing is replacing Squad 51. Addison is replacing Engine 72.

Michael M, Lincolnwood only has 1 engine on order, it’s a typo I had on the list of having them up there twice.
#12 by Michael m on January 8, 2024 - 10:16 PM
Wow! That is a lot of new engines coming to area departments! Which engine is New Leonx going to be replacing? Lincolnwood has two engines on order? They hardly have enough room for the rigs they currently have. How are they going to fit two new rigs into station 15?
The Winfield engine has already been delivered. Don’t know when it will be placed in service.
The Villa Park and Rockford engines are already in production at Pierce. How old are the two Orland engines they are replacing? I believe engine 2 is a 2020.
