On Thursday, 8-25-22 just after 6PM, Buffalo Grove and Long Grove firefighters were sent to 2112 Brandywyn Lane where residents reported a burning odor with light smoke visible. They found fire and not long after reported a hole in the first floor. Reports stated that the fire may have originated in the basement.
Units at the scene were Buffalo Grove Tower 25, Engines 26 and 27, Ambulances 25 and 26, Battalion 4, 408, and 401. Mutual aid included Long Grove Squad 55 and Battalion 55, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51, Ambulance 51, and Battalion 51, Mundelein Ambulance 432, Prospect Heights Squad 9, Elk Grove Village Tower 8, and Buffalo Grove MobileComm.

The Elk Grove Q8 was dispatched due to an error in the CAD responses, just a freak thing that we couldn’t know about until it happened. To their credit though, they made the long drive and did great work and we appreciate their help.

Great shots. I see that the suction hoses are different colors. Nice way for each department to keep track of things.

Prospect Heights Squad 9 was dispatched to this Buffalo Grove fire approximately five hours after they had their own fire in the apartment complex on Old Willow Road. We didn’t have any change of quarters companies in Prospect Heights or Wheeling at that time.

The reason Elk Grove responded is because there was another fire at an apartment building in prospect heights and they were standing by in a station I believe in either prospect heights or wheeling when this call came out as other units that would respond were still doing extensive overhaul in prospect heights

The ten minute notifications are intended to be mind-joggers. When dispatch says your are 10, 20, 30 minutes into the incident the incident commander should be assessing progress, resources, etc. Ask self and answer self “are we winning or losing, should I change tactics or strategy, should I call for more help, etc.
As for listening to fireground, there are six fireground frequencies. Red FG is the primary for most. White and Blue are also available and used for when two different incidents are in close proximity to each other. The other three FGs are used more for training but can be used for incidents. These are simple analog frequencies and you generally need to be near the incident to hear them unless someone with a tall antenna can pick them up and stream them over the internet.

I listen to the radio calls and have a few questions.
How do you get to listen to fire ground red?
They keep telling the battalion every 10 minutes that they are on a code 4. What’s the purpose of this?
thank you

That seems awfully far for Elk Grove, does anyone know why Quint 8 was assigned and not any closer truck? Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Wheeling, Des Plaines, Northbrook, Libertyville, Highland Park, and Glenview would all be closer departments with truck or tower companies.
While not impossible, I kind of find it hard to believe that all of them would be out of service for one reason or another.
