Great Squad, I went to quite a few good fires on that rig in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
Mike – You’re pretty close on most of what you stated above although I don’t think we’ve gone backwards, we had to change with the times… and Squad 55 is manned with at least 3 personnel 24/7. Squad 55A only responds if needed currently. I like your assessment over the village crying poor but never poor!
crabbymilton – Yes that’s the 1992 E-One that the Corgi diecast is modeled after.

This Squad 1, as it is now squad 55, was delivered in late 1992 early 1993 when Schaumburg opened station 4. The previous squad 1 was a Mack MC and ran with 2 FF’s and ran out of station 1 with engine 4 and ambulance 1, I think. The new squad was to big for station 1 and the village wanted to have it available for expressway runs. Station 4 is basically at roselle road and I-90. When station 4 opened the squad manpower was upped to 4 and it was on many MABAS cards. The nice thing was SFD got division. 1 to put a lot of the TRT and specialty equipment on it. Around 2005 SFD built station 5 and when the new squad 1 was built it was a 2 piece rescue pumper as the primary rig and the Box rig which had more specialty stuff. Squad 55 as it was known by then was a stand alone company in their own house. As nice as SFD used to be under their old school leadership over the last 20 years the department has gone backwards. Both trucks are only running 2 men, the engine at station 1 before the tower moved in and after the squad moved out ran with 4 because they ambulance was never home and the 4th man helped with forcible entry and leading out. And when they had 4 stations they ran 5 engines, 2 trucks, the squad and 4 ambulances. There was a lot of tradition lost over the last 20 years by a village that cried poor but was never poor.
Anyways getting back to the E-one squad it was on a hush chassis and as you see only has 3 cab doors.

That’s a beauty. What year is it? I have a CORGI diecast of a Schaumburg squad that was built in 1992. Just wondering if that’s one it’s modeled after.
