Well if you pay attention, you can tell the difference between a SEAGRAVE, SUTPHEN, E-ONE, and the various PIERCE cabs. SPARTAN too has slight differences too.

In spite of the problems they had, at least the had a little bit of style left, which was something in this era of boxes that all look alike.

Sadly that’s another term to describe a once great fire apparatus manufacturer Crabby……

It makes me very sad to see what happened to American LaFrance. Not because they made a quality product, in fact, they made a crappy product in their later years. I just hate to see a company with so much history dissolve. The competition seems to be reducing which is one thing I really like about the fire apparatus industry. There are so many different options, and builders. If you can’t find something you like or something that doesn’t accommodate your needs, then you aren’t looking hard at all!

They have to make room for their new Rosenbauer engine.Regarding American Lafrances quality issues in later years there was a name going
around instead of calling them American Lafrance they were called
Take a chance referring to their problems………

Sad that ALF went away after all of those decades. But then again, they had a very long history of quality and many embedded internal problems so it’s a wonder they lasted that long. The EAGLE and METROPOLITAN line(this one) had that distinct AMERICAN LaFRANCE look them.
