Excerpts from foxillinois.com:
An amendment filed to the proposed Springfield budget would allocate $6.2 million to buy the fire department seven new rigs. This comes as the current budget has zero dollars in it for new apparatuses. This proposal still needs to be approved by the city council in the new budget and will be discussed on Tuesday.
The money is coming from a few different places: $2 million will be loans, $2 million would come from the corporate fund, and the other $2 million would come out of the money that was dedicated to build four new firehouses. The Springfield budget director said the plan of building four new firehouses this year has to change now.
The fire department’s fleet of apparatus is continually getting older, with 12 of them being over the 15-year benchmark. The money would buy six engines and one truck.

Harry, they are not gonna get a custom to the Springfield fire dept spartan for 400k. The last three rigs my dept purchased were all Spartan. NONE of them were even close to 400k. Springfield isn’t gonna buy an S180. We just purchased two pretty basic no BS eone engines for $630 a piece. Still rev group.

Will more than likely go to Pierce, they’ve been eyeing a new Pierce midmount tower and almost all of the rest of the fleet is Pierce aside from a couple Alexis rescues and the KME ladder that they do not like.

Some quick math with the average price shows they are gonna spend just about every penny. Will be money well spent.

I wonder who will get the contract. They desperately need the new rigs. I know they purchased a new engine for engine 4 in 2015 and engines 10 and 12 I believe in 2019. All three were Pierce rigs. So take those 3 off the list. That leaves 9 2007 engine and I don’t know how old the truck is that need to be replaced.
