I worked a 2005 E-One for quite a few years then transferred to a 2010 Pierce. As long as the rig operated and made it to the job, I really didn’t care. I noticed recently on the Pierce there was a small hole in the bottom of one of the compartments floors. I was a bit surprised as the Pierce is 5 years newer than the E-One. Like I said, I don’t really care which brand I work, but I do think the E-One apparatus hold up a little better than the Pierce rigs.

I believe Detroit is discontinuing the current 13 liter due to not being able to meet the next level of EPA standards.

Mike C, humor me for a second. Don’t speculate on where you think Pierce may get their aluminum from……and I don’t know….probably the same metals broker that sells E-one their aluminum. As far as the Paccar engine, I don’t know what Pierce’s thinking by offering that engine, I don’t follow what Pierce does anymore. A Detroit would be my first pick over Paccar anyway.
Like you, I’m well aware of the corrosion issues, the warranty issues, the Tak-4 issues, etc. I’m not a Pierce fan, I may have been a late 80’s early 90’s Pierce fan. But being assigned to a few, we’ve had our problems.
Why dept A buys XXX and Dept B buys XXX when there’s problems with everything, I don’t know that answer either.
Everyone on this site is entitled to their opinions. But every time someone posts a Pierce pic, you’re the first to MF it. I may not like Pierce or their quality, I’ll still appreciate the pics guys post here.
Thank you for your service.

You aren’t bursting my bubble. I already knew most builders use off-shore aluminum. I believe Pierce gets their aluminum from India or China. Can’t remember but wherever Pierce gets their aluminum, it’s clearly a low grade.
Paccar engines are fine but when Pierce announced this partnership, they talked it up like it was an industry game changer which it really isn’t. Is Pierce no longer using Detroit?

Rusty which Paccar big block engine are you talking about? The small blocks are essentially Cummins. The PX9 is basically the ISL9. The big blocks are mostly proprietary although they share the same variable turbocharger as the Cummins. Not much different than Pontiac engines showing up with similar features to the Chevy and Oldsmobile engines.

Hate to burst your bubble boys, guess where E-one gets their aluminum from? Not from the US. You know why? $$$$$$$$

Well that’s interesting. I wonder where they are getting their non-american made materials from. Supposedly the new PACCAR Big Block Engine is a rebadged Cummins. But the Pierce lovers will continue to buy Pierce’s b/c they have that logo on it. They don’t care about frame rail failure, Independent Front Suspension failures, Ladder Failures or Rusting Aerial Deivices, or foreign metals. They continue to pay extra for those items thats whats crazy! They will pay extra for it! I wish I was in sales. Go get extra money for subpar items!

A local fire department with an all Pierce fleet recently purchased an engine from a different brand. This department was so fed up with the excessive corrosion that they requested American made metal on their truck in which Pierce declined to offer. All those Pierce lovers out there thinking their getting a high quality product when they’re getting a truck with low quality off-shore metal.
