Thanks for that Matthew. Indeed, when you see them in that lot, you know they are officially retired. That one sure had a long service life.

Correction to my comment, I meant High Volume 1, not High Pressure 1

Great pictures! Speaking of Macks, the last one that was on the roster I believe was the old High Pressure 1 (a Mack/Pierce I believe), which was in service up until a year or two ago at Engine 10’s house on Oklahoma Ave. It has since been replaced and you can see it seeing in the shop yard behind the old Engine 3/Shop house on Florida St and 1st St.

MFD has had a diverse and unique apparatus fleet over the years, which has been exceptionally well documented. In addition to Jim Ley’s books, Wayne Mutza has been the author of four MFD related books, which are available through Amazon. There was also Beertown Blazes by Richard Nailen and James Haight, published in 1971 and updated in 1981, which is still one of the best big city fire department history books. There have also been several yearbooks.

Thanks for posting those and the link full of eye candy. Gosh I remember in 1988 seeing that MACK when it was spanken new. Hard to believe that was 33 years ago.

I’m pretty sure I have that book. If it’s the one in binder form yes, it’s a good one.

If you want to look into Milwaukee’s history and apparatus check out books by James Ley. A retired Milwaukee Battalion Chief His first book was just about the Apparatus with the corresponding shop codes and how many purchased with price and location, soft cover. And one dedicated solely to Firehouses past and present, hard cover. I think Ken Little was his mentor. If you can find them they are worth it. And one last thought, Milwaukee does not run with all the rigs numbered the same in the Engine house.

Asher, would you mind posting the pic of Ladder 6, The Mack CF Aerialscope? I like many others, had no idea MFD had one years ago.
