Chief, the likely scenario is that the reporter referenced his/her notes, saw ‘ISO’, wasn’t sure what it meant, deadline approaching and no time to make a verification call, Googled the acronym, and the rest is in black and white. Happens sometimes, we’re all only human. Plus with the all the severe cuts in local journalism (e.g., Chicago Tribune, many suburban publications, etc.), it’s amazing that anything gets coverage, let alone properly edited.

BMurphy, I agree with you. I am currious if the article’s author Goggled “ISO” to gain this inapplicable defintion or is someone mentioned in the article used the improper definition.

I do believe the correct meaning of the acronym ‘ISO’, for purposes of this article, should be ‘Insurance Services Office.’
