Even though Engine 62s house is one of Chicago’s older fire stations the house actually has more room than you might think. Engine 62’s quarters also housed Ambulance 5 from 4/1/49 until 3/22/66 when they were relocated to Engine 75’s old house less than a mile south of Engine 62. Truck 27 had been using an 85-foot TDA since at least 195. Beginning in 1958, Battalion 17 had been with Engine 62 until 1982 when they were renumbered as the 22nd Battalion.
Since Engine 62’s house was able to accommodate a TDA, a Cadillac ambulance, plus a battalion chief’s station wagon during the 1950s and most of the 1960s, they should be able to accommodate an ambulance now. Remember, the current Truck 27 isn’t as long as the TDA and the battalion chief is using a short wheelbase SUV.
Even though Engine 115 has a new four-bay house, it makes more sense to have Ambulance 5 centrally located in the 22nd Battalion with Engine 62 than to have two ambulances doubled up on the west end with Engine 115.

Looks like a very well kept old building.
