Aluminum wheels cool faster than steel…….better for the tires and brakes. Although many depts. are spec’ing disc brakes, aluminum cuts down on brake fade (drums) because of the heat dissipation.

Crabby – Steal wheels are pretty close in price to the aluminum after they’re painted to customers preference. In the Midwest, it seems like the steel wheels are rusted out after 10 years. I think the aluminum wheels are a better value for the life of the vehicle. Alcoa now offers aluminum wheels with a black finish. They look pretty sharp!

I miss the cast spoke/demountable rim types. They had that “I mean business” look to them. Black wheels always look good and you’re probably right about concealing dirt. Besides, they are much less costly than aluminum. Sure they have that great shine and claim to improve MPG but in a fire apparatus with short runs around town and mostly idling the engine, the MPG isn’t much of a factor so it’s for show.

Black wheels seem to be the hot item I’m still a red wheel with sliver lip edges and chrome wheel fan I suppose black wheels are easier to clean and hide dirt??

Not the biggest fan of the VELOCITY chassis but they do look sharp. I did see T9 about 2 weeks ago while taking my evening constitutional and that red ladder really makes them stand out.

What happened to the bucket that caused it to break?

MABAS 21,
That’s the goal, but currently their current bucket is permanently broken so they are running in a spare straight stick right now.

Does anyone know if Milwaukee is keeping Truck 1 as a tower ladder?
