This fire I remember attending. I arrived when they were pouring water into the front using one of smaller turrets on the fender of Big John. This is where I met the late Ken Little for the first time. We were across the street from the fire building between Big John, also known as 673, and the railroad viaduct to the south. This was after the height of the fire and they were just pouring water on the ruins.
The fire was only a block and a half south of Engine 104’s old quarters and on the same side of the street. At the time of the fire, Engine 104’s house was also the home of Snorkel company 4. The first Snorkel seen in front of the fire building was actually Snorkel Company 3 which had been reassigned Snorkel 4’s 1961 Ford High-Ranger 80-foot Snorkel. The Snorkel closer to the railroad viaduct was Snorkel 4’s newer 1966 International/Pierce 75-foot Snorkel.

Outstanding photo of days gone by. Our fire service has come a long way.
