From the MacQueen Emergency Facebook page:
Doing the work: customizing a fire apparatus. Highland Park Fire Department just visited (10/2/20) Pierce Manufacturing for their pre-construction visit. The department has a 100′ Mid-Mount on order. We can’t wait to see the final product!

Here are the facts:
Truck 33 will be a Pierce Ascendant 95’ mid mount tower ladder with a pump and will be staffed 24/7/365 out of St. 33 with a crew of 3-4.
Our present squad will go to 34 and will be the engine for the north half of town along with an ambulance out of 34. Manning 4-5 depending on the day.
32 will have an engine and ambulance as usual with staffing of 4-5 per day.
Battalion 33 runs out of 33 with 1.
Our response model is 2 engines and a truck once the tower arrives and companies will operate based on order of arrival and apparatus type.
We will be purchasing a new engine for 32 in 2021 and that engine will move to reserve.

It’s amazing that an affluent municipality with gobs of money can’t even budget enough for a minimum of 3 on a company. Obviously the residents don’t have a clue regarding the daily staffing or operations of their fire department. And I’m pretty sure property taxes aren’t cheap! I wonder if the HP ff union has ever conducted a media blitz to educate the residents on their poor staffing.

I lived in HP until 1985 (I’m old). They ran two-man engines even way back then. Pretty sure NFPA frowns on that. Can’t believe something horrible hasn’t happened. Since the Truck is strictly for mutual aid, it’s truly silly to buy a new one. Save money on a good used one, or just sell the darn thing.

Are they buying a tower? Is this highland park, il?

From what I understand, Highland Park Truck 33 has a better chance of responding on runs out of town then to fires in Highland Park just as Mike says. They are due on a number of MABAS boxes and when that happens they become a jump company with either Squad 33 or one of their 2 two-man engines.
What makes it worse is that Deerfield Truck 20, the next due truck to Highland Park, is also a jump company. It goes out of service when Ambulance 20 has a run, which means there is a good chance that Truck 20 won’t be available either.
It really more sense practically and financially if they followed the example of the Addison Fire District who replaced engines with quints so they could function without having go out of service just to man their part-time truck. It would make more sense if both Highland Park and Deerfield could get together and run a full-time truck with dedicated staffing that could serve both communities without having to go out of service whenever an ambulance was needed. Unless they change their policy of not manning Truck 33, I would suggest that they re-designate it as a turkey truck company whose major function would be to make Station 33 look like a full house. The only thing is that it already is operating like that. They can then perhaps print on the side of the truck ‘We are their when you need us’.
Another way the city fathers of Highland Park tell their residents to go “Truck themselves”. Pun intended.
Have a Happy and a Healthier Thanksgiving everyone.

this ladder in the picture must be elmwood pk nj and as for them getting rid of their sutphen it’s going to be a mistake sutphens are good quality

i am sure not much more than franklin park il because my grandpa pays 11000 plus in taxes

Why would they even bother replacing the sutphen. It has basically been in storage for the last 10 years since it isn’t manned. The staffing at HP is awful for what the residents pay in taxes there. 2 man engines and running almost 6,000 runs a year. What a waste of money.
