Station 1 is strictly admin and is shared with the police station. There is no fire apparatus there because the bays have been filled in. This was the location of the original central station. Station 7 is located directly to the north of station 1 and houses the spare apparatus. Station 2 was closed a number of years ago and is storage like 7.

So they technically only have 4 active fire stations. Only 3 of the active stations have a suppression apparatus. Kind of confusing to people not familiar with the area. Kankakee has quite a few structure fires annually and runs mutual aid with Bourbonnais and Bradley, plus a number of the other outlying departments in the county.

15 square miles with 26,000 people and 7 stations? What is their minimum staffing per day?

Most of the time I believe they run with 2 on the engines. The tower is a jump company. The only stations with staffing are stations 3,4,5 and 6. They make it work with what they have and get the job done.

Tom what kind of bad dream are they living down there. That staffing and amount of rigs is a little silly.

Station 1: Headquarters no apparatus
Station 2: MABAS Haz-Mat equipment
Station 3: Shift Commander and Ambulance
Station 4: Engine and Ambulance
Station 5: Engine
Station 6: Engine and Tower
Station 7: located behind station 1 stores TRT and reserve apparatus.

What is Kankakee planning on doing at this point? Purchase another squad or a trailer?
