Thanks for responding but I was asking about an official policy.
Exposing oneself to fumes, which cannot always be seen or smelled does not show much common sense, logic or reasoning especially when research shows the high risk of cancer within the fire industry. It’s like me saying don’t put on my surgical gloves, just avoid the blood, don’t put on the safety glasses, just avoid and keep the blood from getting in your eyes.

We do this thing where we use common sense, logic, and reasoning….So no, we dont use our masks on detatched alley garages….we just put the fire out quickly and efficiently and stay out of the smoke.

Does Chicago not have a policy requiring fire fighters to wear their SCBA while fighting a fire?
