Ever think maybe they had them on initially and took them off after this was knocked? Its an alley garage. You’re outside. Quit being a puss. I wear my mask, I shower in the hour, try to keep my gear clean and all the rest of the new cancer prevention measures. But I see nothing wrong here. Like I said…bonfire smoke causes cancer too…. should we mask up for those too!? Guess they’ll have to make a special port for me to drink my beer and laugh at stupidity like this!!

Josh. Yes bring back the 70’s when fires burned cleaner since it was wood and cloth burning not plastic and other hazardous materials. Yes this is a blue collar down and dirty job but that’s not an excuse to not wear the harness and keep exposing yourself to what we know is going to make you sick. There are no excuses for this today. We know from seeing guys die and the research out there how bad it is. Nobody is arm chairing this one. Maybe a suggestion for you too is not to comment on something you don’t know about. If you’re who I think you are you weren’t even thought of in the 70’s let alone lived or worked through them. And if you think the fire service is turning into such a joke maybe you should consider a different line of work before you get yourself or someone else killed.

Chicago, New York, Detroit, Indy, any department that burns consistently you will see this. So stop arm chair quarterbacking pictures. If guys want to wear their airpaks, they will. If they dont, that’s on them. It’s part of the job. A blue collar down n dirty job that some people don’t seem to get now a days…. the fire service is turning into a joke. Bring back the 70’s when fireman were fireman

@Craig – You get out of here with your comment! There are fire departments, private, public, local, state, and federal organizations fighting tooth and nail for better cancer preventation in the fire service and the funding that goes along with it. Then a world recognized department consistently and constantly has pictures posted of members not wearing SCBA’s and/or following best practices established today when it comes to cancer prevention measures in the fire service. You tell me again who is wrong?

Craig cut the guys some slack. We are advocating for national cancer protections for us and then this comes up. Wear the harness. It doesn’t hurt to put a mask on and breath clean air. 800 firefighters die from cancer every year and even more get sick. Those that are gone and or sick they and their families are fighting for benefits.

Guess professional firefighters are immune to bad air -nothing possible to find in an alley garage fire that may be harmful to your health!!!

Get outta here with that comment! It’s an alley garage!! I wonder how many bottles you must go thru when you’re sitting around a bonfire!!

Not too much concern for firefighter cancer here. Not one SCBA in sight.
