Thanks Bill, I enjoy reading about firehouse updates and repairs. I remember a retired senior fire dispatcher who spent his whole life documenting and compiling information and facts about the Chicago Fire Department. I even attended a few of his fire tours around the greater Chicago area. His name was the late Ken Little. May he Rest In Peace. John Antkowski. Keep me posted. Thank you.

John Antkowski you did not jump the gun. Despite the fact that the statement had no dates or details it is definitely newsworthy. The fact that it is on the top of that page and mentions a fire company’s number means that Engine 115 most likely will get a new firehouse, probably after Engine 42 and Rescue Station 2 at O’Hare.
There have already been detailed articles about a proposed new station for Engine 42 and they have been talking about a new Rescue 2 as part of the expansion program at O’Hare. Those two stations are not on the Public Building Commission’s list because they would be built using a separate source of funds, they are not Public Building Commission projects.
The news about Engine 42 is that a real estate developer will build a station on the ground floor of a new high-rise on the site of their current station. The city is supposedly selling the land to the developer. In the case of O’Hare Rescue 2, those funds would be coming primarily from the FAA.
As you probably know the city released plans to build a fire and police training academy on city owned land between the 4400 and 4600 block of West Chicago Avenue adjacent to a city owned incinerator.
The city also plans to build a new Department of Fleet Management facility at 210 W 69th Street and another facility on the 4200 block of North Neenah to be used for heavy equipment repairs. I am not certain which site will be used for fire department vehicles.

Yes Bill I was going through the list of projects and discussions and I found that piece. With them not listing any dates or locations means nothing is in the works right now, But possibly in the future. Did I jump the gun? I have been to 115’s a long time ago and I would like to see them get a new house. I mean besides that’s where Brain McCaffery was going to be assigned from the school! LoL. John Antkowski. “A case of scotch man you’re getting cheap in your old age!”

John Antkowski, on the the Public Building Commissions website I found a recent statement that “The board approved an undertaking for the development of a new firehouse for Engine Company 115”.
That’s all it states, it doesn’t give any dates, in fact it doesn’t even say when the statement was made. Is that where you received your information? It sounds like you may have more information then was on their website. Where did you get your information?

John Antkowski, someone mentioned that to me a few years ago on this website who works for the CFD so it doesn’t come as total surprise to me.
What does come as a surprise is that you would mention Engine 107 being on the list because that I have never heard. I really have my doubts about that as by Chicago standards Engine 107’s house is still pretty new. It was built in the early 1970’s while Engine 115’s house was opened in 1908. That is a very big difference.
Michael M, as long as the firehouse has space for an ambulance and the need is there, then they will put one with a single engine. Of the last five new ambulances to go in service, Engine 88 and Engine 107 are technically single engine houses even though they both have room for more apparatus. The City of Chicago’s only single truck house also has an ambulance assigned. That is Truck 24 and Ambulance 29.
Speaking of single engine houses, Engine 75 is only about a mile east of Engine 115 and has had Ambulance 5 since 1966. Before that they were with Engine 62 and Truck 27 and the old 17th Battalion for about about 17 years from 1949 until 1966. Before that they were at Engine 93’s house and their original house was with Engine 82. Many of Chicago’s ambulances have been located in single engine houses.

I am surprised they would place an Ambulance at a single engine house.

Hey, Since you have a picture at Engine 115, I just wanted to comment that while scrolling through the Chicago page on new projects and buildings I read something about discussions were beginning about a new firehouse for Engine 115. It did not mention dates or locations but it’s coming up. I can’t find the list for firehouse replacements. I remember reading it on this website. Can anyone help. I thought Engine 107 was next in line for replacement. Let me know. John.
