Back in the 60’s and 70’s the ambos where black over red. They have been this color scheme for over 30 years now.

I see no black roof. SO MUCH FOR TRADITION!

I’m sorry for my mistake. I found exactly what I was looking for. Now they don’t offer gas for F-series ambulance. They will offer a Transit cutaway in gas and diesel.

Currently ford offers a 6.2L Gas and a 6.7L diesel for the F-450. SOMETIMES ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS LOOK THINGS UP! Info is on the Ford website.

The new current ford heavy duty diesel engine does not fit in the E Series Cutaway hence why the diesel option was discontinued.
Emergency vehicles such as fire apparatus and ambulances must be equipped with the emergency vehicle package by Ford for warranties to be in place. I would suspect that the emergency vehicle upfit package is diesel only due to the heavier demands on emergency equipment versus a dump truck used by a lawn cutting service.

I stand corrected Harry. I did in fact look st the ambulance chassis brochure and it does list the 6.7 diesel as the sole engine.
Since the non ambulance version of the SUPERDUTY offers the gasoline option, I thought it a bit odd that they wouldn’t offer it on the ambulance version as well since they do in the E SERIES but no diesel.

crabby Milton I am not sure where u heard they offer the f series in gas as an ambo unless it is for 18 but I know when park ridge ordered their 2017 f 550 ambo they were told by ford it is only offered as a diesel they said in a few years they would offer gas I am curious where u heard this

Again preception becomes reality whether founded or unfounded.

What the auto manufactures were in the 70’s and 80’s had little bearing on what they are today.

FORD does in fact offer the gasoline V10 on the SUPERDUTY up thru the F-750. But diesel seems to be favored in ambulances.

Regardless of the respective FCA brands and/or divisions, they have had many years of quality problems.
Personally, I think FCA products are as nice as any other builder and I would consider a CHRYSLER 300 at some point. But then its that nagging preception with the quality issues that I’ve experienced in my DODGE company issued work vans and my mom’ has experienced with her JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE.
Once burned it often takes years to get over a bad experience.

For many years Chicago avoided buying Dodge, I recall hearing a story years ago that after CPD began switching from the Dodge Monaco to the Chevy Caprice in the late 70s, Chicago decided they would never buy Dodge again. I can’t remember why but I remember hearing this while waiting for an oil change over at former 19th District at Belmont and Western. I remember they had a few Dodge Diplomats in the 80s for testing but the City decided to stick with Chevrolet as the primary and purchased Ford as needed. Wish I could remember the exact reason for Dodge being disliked for so long.

Politics and manning. The ambos are here sitting…

Speaking of the new ambulances, the 5 new ambulance companies that were supposed to go in service (which I thought was going to be in March) have still not been put in service.

#19 by harry on May 1, 2018 - 11:27 PM

The truck chassis is much heavier duty than the van Fords. A lot of depts don’t want to deal with the diesel regs and emissions crap.
#21 by harry on May 1, 2018 - 9:57 PM
well that makes no sense if they were having problems with the gas fords what is going to make the dodge rams any better I love dodge trucks but I cant see these holding up because new York city has dodge ambos and they are junk
#22 by Marty Coyne on May 1, 2018 - 9:27 PM
They are supposed to be gas not diesel.
#23 by harry on May 1, 2018 - 9:18 PM
I hope they are diesel at least what ambos are getting them other than 20 and 34
#24 by Rob on May 1, 2018 - 7:36 PM
Ambulance 20 also has one
#25 by Crabbymilton on May 1, 2018 - 6:42 PM
The trucks have been known as RAM since ‘10.
Both RAM and DODGE are really separate units of FCA.
That’s ok since some people NAVISTAR trucks INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER after all three decades.
Hehe some inlaws still refer to their daughter by her maiden name so why should trucks be exempt huh?
#26 by Dennis on May 1, 2018 - 6:19 PM
RAM is dodge
#27 by Crabbymilton on May 1, 2018 - 6:18 PM
Actually it’s a RAM chassis not DODGE but names stick.
Should be interesting how they compare to FORD in terms of quality and performance.
