Excerpts from nctv17.com:
The cities of Naperville and Aurora were recently awarded a nearly $1.4 million grant, the largest in the state, to prepare for possible terror attacks by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The cities will use the funds for training on how to respond in the case of a complex coordinated terrorist attack such as those that occurred in Paris and Boston. They will be conducting exercises, including full-scale simulated attacks, to hone their skills.
Emergency managers from both cities said the grant will not only prepare for terrorist attacks, but also will improve response to other events.
The grant will be disbursed over a three-year period.

Both Aurora and Naperville have a large variety of fests, concerts, both have at least on Hospital, both have a University campus, plus a major highway and rail lines (commuter and freight). Aurora is the second largest city in Illinois and as neighboring towns that share an expansive mall district. It makes COMPLETE sense.

Chuck, I have to respectfully disagree with your comment. I’m sure that the host agencies will get the entire region into the training. Can’t get enough training as far as I’m concerned. Train for the worst and hope for the best. The days of sitting around the house are over!

Yeah, cuz Naperville and Aurora never have fests or concerts or other large, well publicized gatherings of people. Or malls. only Chicago should be prepared for large incidents.

Well if God forbid, something happened in Chicago, smaller cities would be pressed into help mode.

Yeah, because we all know what a hotbed for terrorist attacks Naperville and Aurora are. Talk about a COMPLETE waste of money.
