Here is a photo of Chicago Ridge Engine 3, a 1950’s Mack B. Picture taken off the Ridge’s facebook. Identity of firemen not known. I was surprised, as I did not know Chicago Ridge was a Fire Protection District. Enjoy and comment.Mike Summa

Mel, I believe the change occurred sometime back in the late 60’s or 70’s, and was primarily a financial/administrative move. As for their territory, I don’t think anyone took any of it since their district was pretty much confined to the Village limits of Chicago Ridge. In fact, their response area may have actually increased with this change, since the land where the Chicago Ridge Mall now sits may have been part of the old Columbus Manor FPD, which was dissolved when it taken over by the Oak Lawn FD in the late 60’s.

This unit was the first of many Mack rigs to serve the CRFD. It originally ran out of Station #1 at 107th & Lombard until of opening of old Station #2 at 103rd & SW Hwy. There it remained as the front-line engine well into the early 80’s. Don’t know where it went after that. I believe Hometown, Burbank and the Palos FPD all had similar Mack-B engines at that time, as well as Chicago.

Wonder when Chicago Ridge Fire Protection Dist went out of service and who took over their territory.
