An average price for residential sprinklers when included during new construction is roughly $1 sqft.

For what its worth, NEWS reports say the fire was well involved before the first caller reported the fire. Hydrants probably would not have changed the outcome.
What may have helped would be residential sprinklers and/or a residential fire alarm system. Early detection for smoke/fire as well as immediate water flowing to either extinguish or contain the fire. When you get into homes this big with people that can definitely afford all involved with living in them, the extra cost of installing a residential sprinkler system is nothing compared to the home cost.

We see so many fires of these beautiful homes up there. Seems, despite the best efforts, it continues to be difficult to save them.
How much of a difference would hydrants make?
