the 1991 Ford/Luverne former Medic was the Fire investigations /MCI vehicle for many years then became squad 21 ( a short lived dream to chase ambulance calls instead of the truck) then reverted to Investigations .. the dive gear is kept on the squad at 1

Yes, I believe they still do have the 1991 Ford squad running as a dive squad out of station 2.
Speaking of new engines, Lisle-Woodridge is getting a new Pierce engine to replace Engine 55. Its going to be a demo vehicle, and they don’t have enough money to paint it, so it will be red.

Does DG still have that old 1991 Ford Squad or was that sold if they have it what station is it at now?

Thats a pretty small building. What units were running out of it at the time?
#5 by MABAS 21 on December 8, 2016 - 10:38 PM
Daniel: The small brick building at that location was not the fire station, it is a pump house for their water dept. The actual Station 4 was located in the base of the water tower. The bay door is still present as are the windows on the floor above where the living quarters were. Engine 741, a Ford C8000/E-One, ran out of there.

Yea, I know, By building I meant the water tower. Sorry for the confusion.

Station 4 closed in 1995 .It was in the water tower at 3301 Finley rd. Tower is still there as is the interior of the station though it is not used for anything but storage for the village public works

When station 4 was shut down, what happened to the building? Is it still there or was it taken down?

So they have 4 suppression vehicles staffed with 3 each and 3 ambulances staffed with 2 each plus a shift commander?
#11 by ffpm571 on December 6, 2016 - 9:37 PM
Yes…kind of… only on days where it was at minimum manning of 19, If there was more than 19 on shift the truck ran with 4 when there was 20 and with 21 the squad was manned with 2 Truck with 3 , 22 then the squad with 3 people, 23 then a 4th was added on Engine 3, 24 a 4th on Engine 5. Full manning of 25 Engine 1 had a full crew of 4 . Full manning only happened a few times a year. Though it may happen more often as with hiring 12 in the last 2 years for replacement of senior guys with tons of time off there will be less time off used

Here is the official version… Station 1 currently has Engine 1 and jump company of Squad 1 (formerly squad 2) is being sold it is a 2000 and has high mileage from chasing ambulance calls for most of its career. Engine 4 the reserve (formerly E3) is also being sold. Engine 1 is a 2007 with lower mileage and it will move to station 3 to replace Engine 3 a 2005 Pierce that will go into reserve as Engine 4. 2015 Squad 2 moved to station 1, Truck 2 runs with 3, the truck and squad have not run as a two piece company since 2007 when the new station 2 opened.

ffpm571: correct me if I’m wrong, prior to 2007 when the truck and squad were married together at Station #1, they split a crew of 4 or 2 each rig. So Downers lost 1 guy a shift when the new Station #2 opened and the squad was no longer manned?
#14 by Daniel Hynd on December 6, 2016 - 7:18 PM
Last time I checked (which was a few weeks ago) Squad 2 (technically 1) is running out of station 1. They will (to my knowledge) be replacing both the engine and the squad with one apparatus, which is why this is a rescue pumper.

Can anyone tell me if they changed things in Downers Grove. I was under the impression that stations 1, 3, and 5 were engine houses and Station 2 ran with the tower ladder and the heavy rescue that would or could run as a second section to the tower?
#16 by cmk420 on December 6, 2016 - 5:37 PM
So, they are replacing two vehicles with one? Are Squad 2 and Engine 1 both out of the same station? I know they have four stations, so what’s what?
#17 by Michael M on December 6, 2016 - 1:21 PM
I thought they were going to replace Squad 2 and Engine 3 since Engine 3 is the oldest frontline engine?
#18 by Daniel Hynd on December 6, 2016 - 4:08 PM
Squad 2 is running out of station 1 and they want to replace squad 2. engine 1 is pretty old so it would make sense to replace it or put it at 3
#19 by Daniel Hynd on December 6, 2016 - 1:04 PM
This will be replacing both Engine 1 and Squad 2/1
