Bill,
The rescue is staffed by one person. It is not cross staffed or a jump company. If shift staffing is sufficient rescue 1 and rescue 2 are staffed. No additional personnel were hired. Minimum staffing on all suppression companies is 3. Occasionally a suppression company may have 4 people but that doesn’t happen very often. The OT budget has been reduced in recent years so when the shift minimum is reached the rescue units will not operate on those days.

Well I got some of the information already. They are two light rescues in service. The second one for the time being is an SUV. One is located on the north side of town at Station 9 and one is located on the south side of town at Station 10. They are each running with one man a piece so far. And they are primarily used for non emergencies as the article implies.
Naperville will be taking one of eight ambulance companies out of service in order to man the rescue companies. I don’t know which ambulance will be taken out of service. Even though the rescues will be used for relatively minor incidents they may respond on more serious runs to provide extra manpower, however we are currently talking about two, one-man companies.

So what is the manning like for the new light rescue unit? Did they have to take any other companies out of service to man it? Is it a jump company? Did they hire more people to man it or are they paying a few guys overtime to man it? What’s the catch? While on the subject of Naperville, do their current engines, trucks, and pumper/squad run with three or do any of them run with a 4th?
