Shaan Smith, The FAA orders the apparatus for the airport, the CFD might have some say but not the final outcome. Also I don’t know who will build a new rig for sqd. 7, a replacement rig for 5-1-2 would come out of the FAA money, which would mean it would be painted the same green as other airport rigs.

So Chicago fire department squad seven will go with pierce manufacturing to replace squad seven I like that and would be dream come true and are we going to replace one of the hazmat rigs right Deenis it that true or so Chicago fire department orders new appartus

This 2000/2015 Pierce will be assigned to Squad Co. 7. None of the Rosenbauer Squad sets are yet here so nobody knows anything about where their going or who’s getting what. Just because the contract says 4 sets that could mean the city has the option up to 4 sets being built. They might only end up with 1, 2 or 3. I highly doubt that a snorkel/box set will end up at Squad 7. If and when the new sets come more then likely it will be Squad 1,2, and 5. Maybe a new squad in the 4th district or they might just move numbers around like they did with the battalions and the command vans. Also they did not put a new frame under it. I talked to a friend at Fire Service and it was a complete rebuild from the frame up.
Also according to FAA fire suppression guidelines a dept. must have a spare rig for each type of apparatus used. Engine for engine, tower for tower, crash rig for crash rig and squad for squad. As of now there is no spare squad for ORD nor is there a spare hazmat rig though one is supposedly on order( not sure who or when)

What year is Squad 7 & how does the length compare to a length of a Truck (like Truck 31)?

As I said, heard a rumor. Time will tell
#8 by Josh on September 27, 2015 - 6:24 PM
No one has said anything about a 6th set. All rumors…..no body knows anything besides the contract going thru with Rosenbauer, if you take the time to read it. It’s for 4 sets. Going to Squads 1, 2, 5, & 7.
#9 by Brian on September 27, 2015 - 12:52 PM
Heard adding one more squad with the 6th set being a spare set

Federal Q still on. You just can’t see it in this pic.
I don’t believe for a min the city would outfit a second set of rigs for S7 to use off airport. At best I could see the city giving them a snorkel to use in they’re still district instead of the mini pumper. A second box? No chance imo
#11 by harry on September 27, 2015 - 12:08 AM
it looks like they may have taken the federal q off the front any body know

looks great i know that squad has been in bad shape for years since i first went out there and even if they put a lot into it for a reserve it is welll worth it because they either use the reserve engine tower ladder or a city squad so this shouuld be around for at least 15 more years i would guess now i finally can get a decent picture of it all these years and i still dont have a good side shot i see they put differant led mini lightbars on the top side of the cab

Heard a rumor that squad 7 will end up with 4 pieces actually. The existing squad 7 and 7a will remain as on ORD grounds response and the new squad and “snorkel” (whatever it will be called) will be used for the squads response area in the city and any suburban mutual aid.
Also heard that the squad order may be increasing and end up being up to six sets.

Do each district will have its own squad if there are going to be six sets?
#15 by Michael M on September 26, 2015 - 9:11 PM
Where is it at now? Is it at Rescue 1? When will the new squads be done?
#16 by Drew Smith on September 26, 2015 - 8:03 PM
Why isn’t a ready reserve a good thing? How much or how little wear and tear is necessary for a “reserve?”
#17 by mm on September 26, 2015 - 5:28 PM
Cool Mike, thanks for the info!
#18 by Josh on September 26, 2015 - 4:45 PM
Squad 7 will be getting a new Set of Squads from Rosenbauer when they are done. When that happens, this current rig will be the Spare for Squad 7 and 5-1-2
#19 by Rich on September 26, 2015 - 3:13 PM
Really they ordered the squads?
#20 by Chris S on September 26, 2015 - 2:47 PM
The order for the new Squads from Rosenbauer finally went through, so all this work just to be a reserve?
#21 by mike on September 26, 2015 - 7:57 PM
If they didn’t do the work it would have been scrapped. So either spend some money or get pennies on the dollar for scrap and have no spare
#22 by Chuck on September 26, 2015 - 1:56 PM
See what the over and under is on the first mishap…I give it a month…..lol
#23 by mm on September 26, 2015 - 12:19 PM
Do we know if they did any “major” work on it, like engine overhaul or anyting? Or was it just cosmetic (lighting, the doors, etc.)?
#24 by mike on September 26, 2015 - 1:45 PM
They put a new frame under it since it rotted out
