This from Zach Weinreich:
I was on the Fire Service Inc. Facebook Page and saw that they uploaded pictures of the airport pumpers.
Love the site! Keep up the great work!

This is a correction to my previous post. The Stations further out into the Airfield are Stations 1,2 and 4. The 3 was a typo.

Mike L so Rescue 1 must be getting pretty crowded if they have space restrictions there. I had been hoping that Engine 12’s rig would have been assigned to Engine 9 instead as 9’s house being adjacent to the terminals and the Expressway I had felt would have been better served by a standard size pumper (because of maneuverability issues in the crowded terminal area) and as the terminal area gets most of the EMS runs it is easier to drive the smaller Spartan/Erv rig in the heavy traffic as opposed to driving the larger Airport/Arff pumpers which are longer ,bulkier and I would assume would require a larger turning radius. It seems that the larger pumpers would be better suited for the stations further out into the Airfield such as Station’s 1 and 3. However since Station 1 is beginning to have space issues that apparently explains why they put the smaller Spartan/Erv at Rescue Station 1.

Only (2) engines being built for now with an option for a third; not 4 as was commented earlier. The engines are going to Eng 9 & 10; Eng 12 has to keep the “city spec” engine due to space restrictions at Rescue 1. The engines should be at O’Hare by mid August and the hope is in service by the end of August after training, etc. 6-5-5 & 6-5-10 (Stryker 4500’s) should be in service very soon. 6-5-10 will be at Rescue 1 and will be the South ARFF Officer’s (no longer ARFF Commander as there are 3 now instead of 1) while 6-5-5 will be at Rescue 2 and belong to the Central ARFF officer. 6-5-9 will remain @ Rescue 4 and will be the North ARFF Officer’s rig.

Bill thats exactly what I was thinking about but from what I found in the “new orders” section on the Fire Service Inc. site, it looks that they have actually an order for (just) two pumpers for the CFD (couldn’t find any other info). You can find it on this page, 3rd order from the back:
http://fireserviceinc.com/fire-apparatus-new-orders/
It seems to me that the article I posted earlier was probably outdated as it was published nearly a year ago.

Question , if they are still building 3 new “Airport Pumpers” for the initial order where is the 3rd pumper going to be put, Crash/Rescue Station 4 on the far Northwest end of the Airport with 659 and the 6th Battalion? Crash/Rescue Station 4 is actually the old Crash/Rescue Station 2 except I believe only one or two of it’s bays are actually being used for ARFF (Airport Rescue Firefighting Apparatus). The new Engine 12 is already using a relatively new Spartan/ERV conventional size pumper at Crash Station 1

The E-One site says that “the initial order will be for three E-ONE stainless steel pumpers on Cyclone II chassis with 2000 GPM Hale pumps, Feecon foam systems, 1000 gallon water tanks and 250 gallon foam tanks”.

Scott, where do you get ” 4 ” from?
#10 by Scott on July 25, 2014 - 5:34 PM
E-One building 4 total for the airport. Tandem axles because of the tank size.

All kidding aside, judging from the pictures, it looks like they should be at O’Hare in less than a month. Each builder has it’s own time line. Then you have to remember that it’s likely that CFD will spend at least a week preping them before they see any action.
