About the shop number – why did the ambulances change over to around C-60 after being in the G-series and then seemingly jump to around C-700?

When the shop number for the ” C ” s reached 999 the computer system couldn’t put a 4th number on the shop number so they just kept going but didn’t include the 4th. So in actuality the shop number for Amb. 23 is C-1165.

I’m glad they changed design I never liked the fact they took off CFD logo off door to put shop # on door instead of on box where co.# was

OK , here’s a point to consider – CURRENTLY EVERY ambulance is licensed as the company number MATCHING its vehicle License plate. which means the ‘special events’ rigs WOULD ALSO need to be re licensed (which is supposed to include an STATE & EMS System inspection) ARE THEY REALLY Gonna jump thru all those hoops JUST to keep it all Sequentially numbered? Are the Engine , Truck & Squad companies ALL sequentially numbered???

While any change in the Ambulance numbering system for the Chicago Fire Department needs to be made official , the likely hood of renumbering the BLS ambulances to be part of the 60 and 70 series as a continuance of the current ALS numbers seems to be quite likely.
If the Chicago Fire Department officially announces it’s intentions to renumber the BLS ambulances into 60 and 70 series ambulances when they convert them to ALS ambulances.then the photos of the current BLS fleet (80 and 90 series ambulances) will be history and the companies would probably be numbered. So far I haven’t heard of any intentions to renumber the BLS fleet but it probably will happen in the future in order to simplify the numbering system.

I don’t mind ambo pics, but I still think the newer CFD ambs look cheap and generally meh. Time will tell how they perfom on the mean streets after a few years. Although it is a little easier showing up at West Surburban with a room full of the newer CFD ambs and trying to park my much longer suburban rig next to them – the newer CFD rigs are shorter and fit better in The Sub’s much too small ambo bay

The new ambos really do look great! It’s a shame some folks don’t have more of an appreciation for the EMS side of things with the fire department. Anyway, great pics and thanks to the photographer for sharing.
