I have read that FORD will continue production of the heavy E SERIES chassis for at least a few more years alongside the TRANSIT. FORD doesn’t have a TRASNIT chassis above 11000 GVW so until there is, they’ll keep the E SERIES. I wouldn’t be surprised if NISSAN offers a cutaway dual wheel version of the NV van platform at some point. Now that’s nice old school van with a good old fashoined V8.

Sprinter vans arent too good. My father sticks to the Express for a reason.

The Mercedes/”Euro” chassis is the future, for those agencies who don’t want to use a heavy duty (International/Freightliner) or pickup truck chassis. With Ford discontinuing the E-series and soon to be producing the Transit for both type II and III markets, we will be seeing more of this style.

I’m not a fan of Medix, but the Mercedes chasis is actually quite good. They have good pickup, they ride smooth, get good gas mileage, and they are apparently very safe and durable if maintained well. I have used both the Type II version, and a Medix/Mercedes box and liked them both very much. It’s good to see a fire department trying them out.

Yeah normally the looks of a vehicle don’t bother me all that much but that would take some getting used to. I doubt that PROMASTER would be suitable for a ambulance platform. Front wheel drive may be fine for cars, minvans and some SUV’s but a heavy van and then demanding emergency transport? I don’t think so. That PROMASTER does look a little bit like the DODGE full size van from the early 70’s

I was just curious and checked the Ram Promaster, well… that really is a disturbing design.

Anyone else notice the “1” missing from 1230 on the back
#8 by Crabby Milton on June 26, 2014 - 11:29 AM
That’s the MERCEDES BENZ SPRINTER. They are also badged under the FREIGHTLINER name. They were once known here as the DODGE SPRINTER when DAIMLER owned CHRYSLER. I don’t know if you have seen the new full size FORD TRANSIT van but it looks similar but is built here. http://www.autoblog.com/ford/transit/
If you want ugly check out the new RAM PROMASTER.

That has got to be the ugliest thing I have ever seen. What is this, europe? Mercedes? Really? Wow.

Doesn’t look too bad. It’ll be interesting to see how those SPRINTER chassis hold up over time.
