@Rich: Good question, haven’t heard a single word for more than a year. I guess they have a lot to do on the new boom design.

When is the new squads due?

I guess the FAA prefers yellow/lime green. Thanks for the info guys..

It has to do with Federal Aviation Administration regulations. So if the airport is Federally funded the apparatus need to be the Lime Green or Yellow colors.
There are some exceptions, however. The new Airport rigs at Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix Arizona are now red.
The reason for that is because Phoenix doesn’t use Federal Aviation Administration funds for their Airport Apparatus to they went back to Red apparatus for their airports.

They are yellow due to FAA regulations.

Why is it that O’hare fire apparatus is yellow, whereas other CFD rigs are black/red??

there are two on order both rigs replaced both current pierces in reserve and i believe that the eone engine from the 90’s will be held as a spare still for squad 7 if i hear correct till the new squads come in

So I presume that is one of replacements for either Engines 9 or 10.
