The Deerfield Bannockburn FPD has sold Squad 20 to the Somonauk (IL) Fire Department who is replacing a 1984 piece.
Deerfield Squad 19 is currently for sale.
The department will be receiving a new rescue/pumper with storage space for some of the consolidated equipment from both of the older squads. The balance of the equipment will either be stored in the station or disposed of.
A quick historical review of some previous squads that served the Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Prevention District.

@0.03 What accident involving Highwood are you referring to that put their quint OOS?

Ryan – if Spartan/ERV is going to be the manufacturer, there really isn’t any need to have a “bid process”. And can you explain further on what additional capabilities it will have over the current HIPK engines/squad?

Highwood has purchased Northfield pierce n it is e 37 and has been repainted

I will answer your 2 questions guys. When we are down to minimum the guys assigned to Engine 33 jump to Truck 33 and respond to Deerfield, Northbrook, Lake Forest or wherever. That engine goes out if service until it is staffed by hire backs. As for the squad it is going to be Spartan ERV/ Crimson. We are almost done with the final revision and then it is off to the bid process . I will keep all informed as this rig is going to be dialed in with equipment and engine capabilities .

Ryan thanks for the information. So when there are less the 2 men to run on Truck 33 do they have Engine 33 “jump” on the Truck if is going on out on mutual or automatic aid or do they just not send the Truck and and have Red Center dispatch a Truck from another town instead?

Who will build the new Highland Park Squad?

To clarify for you guys Truck 33 responds on auto and mutual aid runs unless it is out for repairs or maintenance. Truck 33 is usually unmanned due to low manpower unless we have extra men who will staff the truck with a minimum if 2. Not ideal but at least it is responding with ladders and equipment. Squad 34 is staffed with 2 unless it goes out of town then the ambulance jumps on to complete the 4 man company. We are presently working on a new squad which will carry all the present equipment plus even more. Hope that clears things up.

I don’t believe that truck 33 is in service. HP was having highwood come in with their quint but since the accident I’m not sure what they’re doing. Obviously Deerfield is dispatched by RED so if the truck isn’t available then they get a neighboring town, maybe Lincolnshire, northbrook. I’m not really sure. I guess it just goes to show. If you can’t staff it, don’t buy it.

So, 0.03 that means that if ambulance 20 is on a run and they need a Truck company in Deerfield on a still alarm they would have to request a mutual aide Truck or run without a Truck.
If the run was in Central or Downtown Deerfield Highland Park Station 33 is only about 2 miles east of there (where Deerfield rd becomes Central avenue at Highway 41) however I’m not sure if Highland Park always runs with their Truck company in service either. I had heard a few years ago that the Highland Park Truck was being used primarily as a Mutual Aide company however I’m not sure if that is still the case as if it was running only mutual aide then they would probably have to take Highland Park Engine 33 out of service in order to run the Truck as Station 33 normally doesn’t run with a manned ambulance company to cross man it , unless Truck 33 is now running as a separately manned company with it own crew assigned to it?
I know that Highland Park had been running for quite a while with only 2 men on it’s Engine companies and perhaps the Squad/Pumper which used to run out of station 33. As just a couple of years ago Squad/Pumper 33 was reassigned to Station 34 while Engine 34 was reassigned as Engine 33.
Perhaps the Highland Park Squad runs with 3 people on it now?
When Squad 33 used to run a separate Squad Truck the Squad used to run with only one man on it while Engine 33 would run with 2 men on it so when both would respond together on an accident they would have a total of 3 men , which was still short handed by most standards.

I believe that 1984 squad use to serve in West Chicago as well.

The truck is usually cross manned too with the guys from the ambulance.

It is ironic that both of Deerfield’s Squads either have been or are in the process of being sold. To my understanding they weren’t regularly manned and they were either manned by called back personnel from other shifts or they had to be cross manned by other companies if there was a need for them.
As it is, I understand that their Engines are equipped with extrication tools as opposed to the Truck company.

Will the new engine for Deerfield have as much storage space as the two Lisle Pierce PUC’s?
#15 by Rob on May 18, 2014 - 5:20 PM
Does anyone know if the new engine for Deerfield will be a Pierce Arrow XT like Engine 20 and when it will be delivered?

The old Somonauk squad is not a Pierce. Its a Pemfab/ Ranger its being sold to another Illinois FD. The Former Deerfield Squad will be repainted white with red stripe

the post refers to the old piece (not Pierce)
