Jim I don’t know Schaumburg fireground operations so I can’t. But what I can tell you is years ago the department was structured as follows and overtime been reduced
Station 1: ambulance 2 persons
Squad 4 persons
Engine 3 persons
Station 2 Ambulance 2 persons
Engine 3 persons
Truck. 3 persons
Second engine 3 persons
Station 3. Ambulance 2 persons
Engine 3 persons
Tower ladder 3 persons
When station 4 opened
Station 4. Ambulance 2 persons
Engine 3 persons
Squad was relocated due to highway access and engine at station 1 went from 3 – 4 people
During the 08 recession the 5th engine and squad were combined into 1 company and the trucks went from 3 – 2 for a total loss of at least 15 people. Also as of today the engine at station 1 is only running with 3 instead of 4 and I don’t think the engine at station 3 got the 4th man since they don’t have another fire company in house. Years ago they also got rid of their battalion chief title because it saved the village a whole 20,000.00.
They have returned the title of battalion chief since then. This village is another rosemont with tax dollars and doesn’t levy property taxes. But they treat the firemen operationally like garbage. Ask someone who worked there when Bob Sutherland was chief and compare to today.
I know things change but it’s supposed to get better not worse.

Mike,
Can you describe which tasks are not being done on the fireground because of the two person trucks?

FFPMtom & Tim,
They moved the tower from 53 to 51 about 2 years ago and Schaumburg has been running (2) man trucks for years now.

Schaumburg has been running 2 man trucks for a long time. For a village that has a lot of money they sure raped the fire department over the last 30 years.
