This from Larry Shapiro:
Here’s a unique truck for #TBT – an E-ONE Hurricane/Bronto Skylift F174 demo unit with dual front axles. I don’t know the disposition of this truck. I photographed it in 2005 at the E-ONE factory.

I remember that South Padre Island also received a 174′ Bronto on a Pierce Arrow chassis. I know that it was eventually sold to Jay, Vt.

Here is a brief summary of the infamous SPANGLER DUAL.
The E ONE featured here and the HUSH that John was talking about had nothing on this monster.

Just a giant soda can with wheels. Most of the truck was aluminum. Milwaukee had a bunch of e one’s back in the the day. The aerials were easier to climb. They also had the hush series with the motor in the rear, quiet cabs, but a bitch to re-pack hose. The hose bed sat in front of the motor. Funky design.

I bet wheel alignment was a nightmare. There were some buses built in Mexico with duel front axles and that was a constant problem. The SPANGLER DUEL was another one.

Not sure why anyone thought this truck was a good idea.

I am pretty sure this rig went to Coral Gables FL. Originally it ran as a 1st due truck, then as a special call piece.
