Everyone has their personal opinion but after being an EVT for nearly 16 years I can honestly say Pierce’s quality is nothing to write home about. The countless rusty torque boxes. The countless TAK4 issues. The countless Command Zone problems. Pierce makes a heck of an aerial. The rest of their products are mediocre at best. Yes all manufactures have their share of problems. I do not work for E-One or Fire Service Inc. I am not associated with them in any way but I believe Fire Service Inc is the best service center in Chicagoland. In my opinion customer service is top priority. E-One is not my first choice but I have had several interactions with their local dealer to where I say they’re fantastic people and a fantastic organization. I’m glad to see Romeoville buy a Seagrave. They make a hell of a rig! Seagrave engineers a tech friendly rig and they hold up incredibly well. I’ve seen 25 year old Seagraves with insane amount of hours and usually a broken odometer going strong. Stainless rigs hold up well. Aluminum not so well in the Midwest.

I’ve been in the fire service for 35 plus years. Spec’ed 25 pieces of apparatus.
It comes down to this: What do you like better, Chevy, Ford, Dodge.
Some depts. like apparatus A some like B some like C. For all different reasons.
What I found is that the fire service likes to over complicate everything. What I do know everyone is getting tired of E-one and Pierce in this area. To see a few Seagraves creep in is not a bad thing.
Pierce, E-one, Seagrave, KME, Spartan has all been around a long time. Every one has problems with each. I remember guys complaining that 2009 Spartans and Pierces were junk. But ignorance abounds in our business. Those were not manufacturer problems, those were Cummins problems or better yet EPA emission problems.
Those are good manufacturers and Cummins is a good engine builder. Throw the federal government into that pool and every thing sucks. I’m going to eat dinner so I’m off the soapbox for now.

I’m sure part of it plays a roll in the unreliability of E21 and E23 in which both are total garbage. Especially E23 after the accident. Pierce did a lousy job repairing it.

Good choice Romeoville! I’m confident this beauty will last significantly longer than your Pierce rigs!
