2-Alarm fire in Northbrook, 1-16-19

Northbrook firefighters along with mutual aid companies responded to a reported house explosion at 2563 Melanie Lane before 6:30 Wednesday morning (1/16/19). Arriving companies found one house engulfed in flames with fire extending into the exposure buildings on both sides. A Box Alarm was requested and then a 2nd Alarm was requested bringing companies from most of Division 3 to the scene.

The original house was totally destroyed, one exposure was virtually gutted, and companies were able to contain the fire to the other house with what appeared to be minimal interior damage. Elevated master streams were deployed by Northbrook Tower 12 and Glenview truck 14. Glenview Engine 8, Northbrook Engine 10, and Northbrook Squad 11 were all pumping.

Currently, S11 is a pumper squad/rescue engine, call it what you will, and it runs as the supression unit out of sta 11. R12 is staffed with 2 when in service and chases ambo calls etc. S11 and R12 operate independently on normsl days/calls unless due on a box alarm then theyll respond as 2 piece squad.I believe the future is S11 is to be housed at Sta12 and manned by callback personnel and R12 will still be staffed with 2 most days but theyll still respond as 2 piece on box alarms or trt calls in town. S11 was put in frontline service for some or all of its warranty period to ensure any covered problems were identified and fixed.

In Northbrook capital improvement plan it calls for the replacement of a12 so could that be the ambulance

What is Northbrook running for companies now? Eng 10, Eng 11 Tower 12 and Sqd 12 plus the ambulances? There is no Eng 12 in regular service, correct? Is Squad 12 regularly manned? Thank you

On page 2, is that a brand new Freightliner for Northbrook Squad 12? Any specs on it?
