Chicago police officers were sent to investigate a burglar alarm around 7:30AM on Thursday (6/1/17) at 2945 N. Milwaukee Avenue where they discovered a fire inside the furniture store. Firefighters arrived to smoke and fire in the two-story, 100×125 brick building with a partial bow-truss roof and glass storefront. Companies were eventually pulled from the building and initiated a defensive attack. The alarm was raised to a 2-11 and then a 3-11 with elevated master streams from Tower Ladder 21, Tower Ladder 23, Squad 2A, and 6-6-1, the reserve Snorkel.
Multiple contributors were at the scene and will be submitting images and video.

Engine 91 was first due engine on this fire I believe. Would have been quite the shot of they were hooked up in front of their old quarters.

This was the first fire that a new snorkel worked with the old reserve. I also believe it was the first time one of the new snorkels were put to work other than 5A. The firehouse in the picture is Engine 91’s old house which closed March 17, 1982. The “Engine 92” that was carved above the doors was a mistake that was never corrected. The house opened in 1901.

Interesting that there’s an old fire station right in the middle of it all.
When did that one close?

Is this the very first fire that one of New Squads (ACP 55) & the Reserve Snorkel worked together?
