The Hinsdale Village Board is expected to name Hinsdale Fire Capt. John Giannelli the next fire chief of the department, effective Nov. 26.
Fire Chief Richard “Rick” Ronovsky is retiring effective Nov. 25. A reception was scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hall to recognize both Ronovsky and Giannelli.
Giannelli, who has been with the Hinsdale Fire Department for 25 years, is the department’s training officer and a shift commander. He was promoted to captain in 2012 and lieutenant in 2006. He has a bachelor’s degree in fire science management from Southern Illinois University.
Ronovsky spent 30 years as a Hinsdale firefighter and has been fire chief since 2012. He also has worked part-time for the La Grange Park Fire Department.
