Thanks for submitting the maps Steve. If you notice there is some unusual redistricting that was done with some of the battalions and districts. The most noticeable thing is how there are two district headquarters,District 1 and District 4 on the west side. District 1’s western border is only half a mile west of it’s quarters (Ashland Avenue) and west of Ashland is assigned to the 4th District even though they are further from there in distance. Battalion 4 was relocated from Engine 23 to 28 even though Engine 28 is barely a mile from Engine 39 where Battalion 15 is lives.
The new Battalion 19 who replaced Battalion 18 at Engine 54’s quarters now goes east of Cottage Grove Avenue as far as Stony Island, but only for exactly two blocks from 67th to 69th Streets before it becomes the 23rd Battalion. It is just a very thin strip of land if you look at the battalion and district maps.
Battalion 16 was also extended east of Pulaski to Central Park where the border goes between 55th and 63rd Streets so that now Engine 88 is located in Battalion 16 where it used to be part of the old 19th (now 6th Battalion).
The new 12th Battalion (old 5th Battalion) used to go only as far south as Armitage where Battalion 3 would go south of Armitage. Now Battalion 12 goes south of Armitage as far as 1400 north, but only east of Wells Street. West of Wells Street Battalion 12’s southern border remains Armitage Avenue.
The question is why were these changes made and was it really worth it to relocate District 4 to the west side? Was it worthwhile to change a few of the battalion numbers so that they could match the other battalion numbers that they were located near in the new districts?
