River grove had multiple problems with engines and transmissions on both Pierces. It was not a Pierce related problem and then became too costly to try to maintain them. The Schaumburg and Evergreen Pk rigs were Cost effective and the Evergreen was donated. They are working on a Grant to replace at least one of the Engines. Not every town in the Western burbs can afford new and makes do with what they have or given.

All the spaares at ohare are lettered S ad not R because the runways numbers are Left and Right. this was done to avoid confusion over the radios

One of river groves engines had electrial issues and they replaced it with a E-One from schaumburg …not sure about the other but i know they have a Ex Evergreen Park and EX Broadview Engine

Not to get off subject… But just wondering why the river grove fire department got rid of both of their pierce engins and replace them with older ones?? And they can’t order a new rig instead of buying used? Just curious!!

Umm…. In regards to the current running spares at ORD, Sqd 7 is still using the old E-One 9S , and Eng 9 as of this past Sunday was using the Pierce 10s, how do I know this? Because I dispatch them…There are currently 2 spare 10-S’s, the old E-One, and the newer Pierce, Same goes with Eng 9-S, the old E-One, and the newer Pierce, both Newer Pierces were replaced with Brand new E-Ones…

I’d love to see any of their platforms in the CFD in the future, at least it’s good to know that somebody’s working on bringing the Snorkel back to the market.

Danny, thanks for the info, sounds almost unbelievable..

Given the rich history between the “Snorkel” and the City of Chicago, it is a shame that the City isn’t getting the first production models from the new company. I wonder if it was even a thought….

Jim Regans column in the new fire apparatus journal says
“On another positive note there is movement between the city and rosenbauer on the four sets of snorkel squads and we are hopeful production will begin soon.”

Jason, while serving as spare Squad 7 at O’Hare, it got cut off and struck a pole on Mannheim Rd…

And again – what about the NEW rigs??! Are there any rumors who’s gonna build em or what’s happening now?
#18 by markus on May 22, 2015 - 9:23 PM
