Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
Lincolnwood is one of the first suburbs in the area to locate a fire station at an assisted living facility, where many 9-1-1- calls originate.
The Lincolnwood Fire Department has opened its second, smaller station inside The Carrington at Lincolnwood, the assisted living facility that opened in 2018 at 3501 Northeast Parkway.
The station houses an ambulance and living quarters for two paramedics, and also serves residents and businesses in the east portion of Lincolnwood. Given its site, Lincolnwood Fire Chief Michael Hansen pointed to the immediate response times for Carrington residents as a significant benefit.
The station’s personnel will serve the Carrington, as well as the nearby Lincolnwood Place, another assisted living facility. The firefighters working at the Carrington will also be responsible for the Lincolnwood Town Center Mall, plus the village’s east side, serving over 45 percent of the community.
The department staffs the station from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., though Hansen did not rule out changes in operation times in the future. During the other 12 hours of the day, emergency services come from the station at 6900 N. Lincoln Avenue.
Creating the ambulance bay and space for paramedics was a goal for the Carrington’s ownership group when the facility was originally proposed to the village.
