Aurora Fire Department news (more)

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

A senior paramedic with the Aurora Fire Department has been ticketed for running a red light in Naperville earlier this month, causing a crash that toppled the ambulance he was driving and sent a woman’s car hurtling into a row of parked vehicles.

John A. Nagy, a 22-year veteran of the fire department was cited for disobeying a traffic control signal in the Jan. 3 collision, Deputy Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said Tuesday. The ambulance was returning to the station after dropping off a patient.

He and a fellow paramedic were slightly injured in the incident. The woman who was driving the car remained last week in Edward Hospital in stable condition and with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police investigators have determined neither alcohol nor narcotics figured in the crash. Nagy was placed on administrative leave following the crash, pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Aurora Fire Department news (more)

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:

A surveillance video shows an Aurora Fire Department ambulance going through a red traffic light prior to a Tuesday morning crash in Naperville that left two paramedics and a Naperville woman injured.

It is not known if the ambulance had its lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash. A dense fog advisory was in effect when the collision occurred.

Security tape taken by the Mobil service station at the northeast corner of Aurora and Ogden avenues, viewed Tuesday by the Naperville Sun, caught the image of Aurora Fire Department Paramedic Unit 8 as it traveled west on Aurora Avenue and went through a red light before striking Toyota Camry. A similar videotape was made by Woody Buick GMC, directly across Ogden Avenue from the gas station.

The paramedic who was driving is a 22-year department veteran and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the Naperville investigation.

The preliminary police investigation confirmed the ambulance was going west on Aurora Avenue and the Camry north on Ogden.
